It is vital that Teachers/educators understand that the lunch box program is implemented to promote school readiness for the kindergarteners. Teachers/educators must familiarise themselves with the centre鈥檚 nutrition and food safety policy and ensure that this is reflect within the planning and programming cycle. It is significant that Teachers/educators understand that the implementation of the lunch box program has strong educational and developmental benefits for the children. It is important for Teachers/educators to be able to communicate this message to all families.

 

Communications post to parents:

The communication post must be posted at least 3 weeks prior to commencement of the lunch box program for families to be able prepare adequately.

Dear parents, as part of our school readiness program, Woodlands will be asking all Kindergarteners who will be transitioning to school in (add year) to bring in a packed lunch box. The program will begin on (add date) and end on the (add date).

Aim: To encourage children to use a lunch box and understand the benefits of healthy eating as they transition into primary school. (Attach link to guide on 鈥榣unch box program for parents)

What to include:

路      Morning tea

路      Lunch

路      Afternoon tea will be served by the centre at 2pm

 

Choice of lunchboxes:

 

Choice of lunchboxes must be child-friendly to ensure that children are able to open/close them appropriately. Parents may wish to practice opening/closing lunchboxes at home with the children prior to commencement of the program.

 

 What not to include in lunch boxes:

 

Woodlands is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all children. In consideration of children with medical and dietary requirements we ask all families to adhere to the centre鈥檚 nut/egg free policy.

 

Woodlands will not approve of lunch boxes which include:

路      soft drinks

路      flavoured milk

路      Chocolate/lollies/sugar/sweet snacks

路      packaged chips

路      peanuts/Nutella

 

Teachers/educators will ensure to check all lunch boxes upon arrival. Meals/snacks which do not align with Woodlands鈥 nutrition guidelines and those which may be of risk to the health of other children will be removed and sent back home.
